The other day when waiting for Nell, I took a stroll down the lovely Maiden Lane in San Francisco. I decided to peek into Marc Jacobs and what did I find inside that was 70% off?....
THESE PUPPIES! I've been dangerously into them for 2 long seasons and now they are slightly more in reach.

Chanel Lightbulb shoes

(From the Beckerman Bite Plate blog)

HOLY HELL these are amazing!

These Chanel pumps are from pre fall 2008 and how have I never seen them before?  They are goatskin sandals and the lightbulb actually works!

I'm one for a pretentious lifestyle*. I'm not even gonna lie about it. I live in a brownstone and my honey is truffle lavender infused. So all things considered, I should truly love Elements of Islay. The packaging is sublime**, it's conceptual and it probably tastes good (yeah I know, I'm judging a book/bottle by it's cover, beat it). But for some reason I can't get into it, it just seems too pretentious.

Whisky Magazine goes full force on the d-bag train by noting Cl1 as having an aroma of "seaweed and driftwood mingling with hay and a briny/rockpool"

I'm sorry, but seriously? seriously...SRSLY?

And that's not even the flavor, which contains "stewed pear", "smokiness", "edible seaweed", "hot sand", and a "brimful of personality"***.

So the seaweed is labeled as edible...but dudes you forgot to say if the brimful of personality was as well.

All in all, Elements of Islay
is kinda like these guys****, they look intriguing, but they're better left alone.

*The answer is "No", because those baby shoes are fugly.
**So bad, but even worse is that I get the pun.
***Is this legal? It seems so wrong.
****Read the caption. It's pretty acccurate.

Things under a microscope reminds me of that Arrested Development episode, but this is nothing like that. This is whiskey under the 'scope. Pretty sweet. Looks like a Mcqueen pattern.

Happy Anniversary to the amazing Jenna and Manik for sticking together for 4 years. Way to be! The couple spent the evening at Bourbon and Branch in San Francisco courtesy of moi, Keebs and Nell. If you aren't as lucky as Jenna and Manik to have such amazing friends that get them such amazing gifts (I actually got Nell this) to such amazing places, I still suggest you check the place out. It's dark, underground and speak-easy like...and they obviously have rye.

PIMMS PLEASE

I'm lounging in my roommates pleather chair (no joke it's the same), it's 329 degrees out, sweat drops are literally racing one another down my leg, it's disgusting right now in the East, and whenever i get up the chair and my butt make this suction thing...anyhow due to all these shitty factors I've been craving a Pimm's Cup (I know, I know it's not Rye, it's Gin based, get over it). Chow has a nice little recipe here. I've also been wanting to make homemade ginger ale, like this guy. Here's a basic one with pictures. Enjoy

Bros for Bushmills

What do you think of when you see this ad? Do you see these guy's carefree poses and say: "Wow those dudes are chillin!"Or do you wonder: "Are they selling whiskey or hulk hands?". Or maybe your like me and your pissed you have to go and blog yet again about the horrible misogyny of bro whiskey ads.  But theres something different about these guys, they're not just regular dudes.
These puppies started showing up in the New York subways a few weeks ago. At first, I second glanced and cringed, the way you instinctively turn back around when a dude in plaid and Rayban's walks by you on the L train reading a pre-worn copy of  Catcher in the Rye he picked up at Urban. But today I found myself face to face with one of these dude's giant chillin ball sack...

Chromeo
So I went searching (on the internet not in the balls), and guess what? These aren't just any bros hanging out drinking whiskey and playing with big mutant hands, these are New York dudes, New York dude artists to be exact. That first set of douche bags are  Fools Gold, a brooklyn based record label that brought us Kid Cudi, and the giant brohans painted in Williamsburg for all brohans to see is musical duo Chromeo.   It's a new campaign by Bushmills to promote "brotherhood" and brotherhood as a metaphor for whiskey, namely Bushmills whiskey, a campaign that "stems from Bushmills’ general, straightforward marketing initiative to serve as an outlet to express the important people in our lives through a warm Irish whiskey."

Filmmaker Greg Brunkalla went "behind the scenes"to film all sorts of bros doin all sorts of brotherly stuff and drinkin bushmills in a brotherly way. Watch them here.

I Whiskeyglass NY???
I would take a million whiskey ads of kilted men beating their wives while drinking a scotch over this crap. I don't want to live in a city where I am forced to see towering dude bros I don't recognize having a chill time drinking whiskey and have to be okay with it because it is promoting "brotherhood". If I wanted that kind of torture I would have asked the L Train guy if he identifies with Holden Caulfield.

Noritaka tatehana

Can someone please explain to me how it is physically possible to walk in these shoes?

I think they are sculpturally beautiful, but I just can't wrap my mind around, you know, defying gravity.
I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga, I can't stand her music, but I just sat through the 9 minute long Alejandro video to see if she can walk in these puppies - she mostly just stands still or is carried by her mob of fit men.  You can watch the video on Gaga's stylist's blog: Nicola Formichetti

.....

These are also beautiful:
